What an amazing and tiring weekend, we filled the weekend with 6 sessions, 4 opportunities to photograph and learn “hands on” as well as 2 chances to learn how to edit those same photos in Photoshop. We started it all off with a “trash the dress” session along Clear Creek inRedding, CA. In attendance was 26 photographers, 5 models and a small supporting cast of extras, there is no better way to beat the summer heat then standing in a cold creek!
Saturday Morning found us meeting at 5:00 am where we headed up nearMt.Shastato start the day off learning quickly how difficult landscape photography can be when the skies are clear and the air is filled with summer haze. After a few attempts at capturingMt.Shastaand learning about graduated filters we headed up toCastleLakefor a couple minutes to play around with reflections and polarizing filters as well as placed our models in the photos. We then found ourselves atHedgeCreekFallsnear Dunsmuir, this little falls seems to get a bad rap be found it enchanting. After spending 30 – 40 minutes working on capturing silky water we moved in the models and had a good time making some very dramatic portraits. We finished the morning off at Dunsmuir’s park along the river and tiny botanical gardens.
Afternoon was spent with Dann Mann of HDR Imaging teaching us Photoshop techniques for editing our photos from the morning as well as talking about printing options.
As if we were not tired enough, Saturday night we headed out above Shasta Dam and met the Northern California Porsche Club along with 6 or 7 wonderful models for an evening of portrait fun.
Sunday brought us another early morning and for the first time in three years the photographers were late! We were all just that tired! How cool is this, we spent the morning in a concrete manufacturing plant shooting models in this industrial setting. We also for only the second time in our history photographed swimsuits, these photos were later used to teach glamour/portrait retouching techniques with Photoshop. We were supposed to be finished at 11:30 am, we just too much fun and I pulled the plug at 12:20 because we still had one more session to complete.
The weekend was finished off at HDR Imaging working on and learning portrait/glamour retouching for Photoshop, I have to say that it was a full, exciting, tiring weekend and I can’t wait to do it again!
