Shooting for Composites

We finished our first workshop where we took advantage of Halloween and everyone’s love of costumes and shot photos with the idea of compositing them in Photoshop. The steps where very simple: lock down the cameras on tripods and photograph individually the items we wanted in the photos with the idea that we can just layer our shots and mask out what we wanted to keep or lose.

Compositions not your thing? Why waste your time doing this? Well, like most things in photography it all runs together. The things that you learn by compositing a photo helps you to not only think through how a photo is composed but there is know better way to fully understand Photoshop then to really push yourself out of your comfort zone.

The whole day was not just spent creating compositions, much of the day was just having fun capturing some cool costumes and an evening of Photoshop instruction with guru Dann Mann.
